Yaquina Bay , 36 miles north from Siuslaw River , is entered over a medium depth bar that in summer is one of the smoother bars on the Oregon coast. It is prudent however, to time your arrival and departure with a favorable tide. The channel into the bay is marked with lighted ranges, channel markers and buoys.

The Port of Newport Marina , located at the community of South Beach , is on the south side of the bay 350 yards east of the bridge. The fuel dock is immediately to port on entering the marina. The next dock is the visitor dock; and is set-up for side tying large vessels on the north side and 36-40 foot slips on the south side, both 30 and 50-amp shore power and water are available on the dock.

The marina office monitors VHF channel 12.  Restrooms, showers, picnic area, laundry room, limited groceries and ice are located at the south end of the marina near the marina office.

The city of Newport , a full service community, and the Newport Historic Bay Front District, are across the bridge on the north side of the bay about 1˝ miles from the marina. The Historic Bay Front District, once the major commercial fish-processing center for the Oregon coast, has been reduced to a remnant and replaced by the tourist industry. It is similar to the tourist district on the Monterey waterfront. A microbrewery is at the south end of the marina, and serves short order items. The limited service community of South Beach within walking distance from the marina has some groceries and supplies, and the Fish Tails Café, frequented by the locals, features gourmet style seafood breakfast specials.
